Background Information

A. Reader’s background.

To write, to think, to feel and to live, not always go of the hand, so and as it corresponds to the contradictory souls or individuals, plus the search of certain levels of coherence, ethics, philosophical and aesthetic, it constitutes a temptation at which few free souls, can get to refuse.

In early childhood, the artistic writing, interested to me, as expressive channel, playful necessity and of joint of an alternating space - to organize ideas, the sensible world and the contexts that crossed my dreams- in the adolescence, somewhat but like evasion, that with the passion and the seriousness that this office, later, allowed to discover us.

I believe that if somebody thinks, of retrospective way, that or that forces, run like parallel rivers in produced texts: in some corner of the way, it will be able to identify with clearness, some teachers and teachers related to his biography and vocational exploration, early readings, likings and contexts, able to later motivate the self exploration and, combinatorial, rhetoric, who make possible, a text written and conserved, from any age, by author.

I defend the concept that the art and Literature, leave from, misled, luminous or opaque twisted, happy an attitude, but attitude to the aim without which it is impossible, to wake up in a kid, adolescent or adult, person: self motivation, as pleasure, not as scholar duty or home work, beyond urgency to take a symbolic repertoire and make a significative contribution, experimental, personal, tormented or joyful a notion able to do of such exercise: a delight, for different types from readers and readers, at different moments and places.

My father, was a great reader - he also could be author, of not to have thrown the original one from his novel to the sea, leaving Madrid, after concluding his studies as scholarship- holder in addition I worry, because we had the access to readings, manifold, including in such versatility, Literature.

Classical Encyclopedia, between 1976 and 1979, represented, in my particular case, an reader home initiation, with recreational intentions. For a boy or adolescent, the boredom, the difficulties to interpret and to enjoy western classic texts, is always a stumbling block, to reach the balance between tradition and modernity, demanded by Octavio Paz.

I recognize that in such works, there was something different from which in the personnel looked for I, outside the familiar scopes and their supplies of reading. At that moment, when I began to construct my first small library, the movements youthful contemporary - of post II World War and the vanguards - parnassians, ultraists, symbolists, surrealists, dadaists- seemed to me but exciting much than Gogol, Cervantes, Dostoyevsky, Shakespeare, essentially: the Beat Generation - and within, Jack Kerouac’s narrative and poetry-

As adolescent reader, during that decisive period - for youth practices them in which later I was becoming jumbled, like nascent artist and become fond of-everything this dividing of the pleasure-not the obligation to read- to comment and to discuss, texts, some of which went of the class of Spanish and Literature, to the works in Arts School in Santiago de los Caballeros, specifically in the Drama School.

The curiosity, but or less early, by the theater and the audio-visuality, I commit myself to explore other matters and readings, with the intention of satisfying, that techno-vocational formation: where audio-visuality, table’s rehearse, the representation, the colloquies of criticism and the interchange with a new promotion of theoretical and research young people, returning from political exile.

Public policies an public investments, represent a powerful tool, in this particular stage, Centro de la Cultura de Santiago de los Caballeros, allow to know personalities the stature of Armando Villamil, Luis Felipe Rodriguez, Alberto Rowinsky, Sergio Arrau, Adelso Cass, until the doors just opened (1979) Centro de la Cultura –today renamed Professor Miss Ercilia Pepin-Center of the Culture of Santiago (CCS), organization to which I was spiritually tie - just like in its program of activities like student and ally in my first passages like manager and sociocultural entertainer, from its foundation, to 1989, when unfortunately, it began to turn towards a direction of the contempt of the local talent, to make us feel, that all the previous one was an error, and from the logic of "earth devastated "," to initiate "the formation, following puntuables criteria and methodologies, internationally accepted.

Lamentably - I dissent of the apostles of the spiritual neocoloniality, in raised at the end of the previous paragraph the CCS, was throughout that first decade, with its cocurricular program, the capital of the experimentation and the youthful culture, for the market or hearings, childhood-youthful, nonsingle in the Cibao’s Region and Dominican Republic.

Who need to be acknowledges, in this time and place?

Of course to the Popular Theater of Center (TPC), to those who from the administration of the CCS, they knew that without logistic the suitable one, it was impossible or insufficient the impact in research and cultural extension (1979-1986) in an organization promoting services, creative, educational and of communitarian socio-cultural joint, like the "Center".

People of passion and dedication to its students and the community as Bernarda Jorge, Sandra Pacheco, Rafael Villalona, Victor Checo, Jose Núñez, throughout the first administrations of Center of the Culture, that although with few resources, used their organizational imagination and capacities, to attract and to retain, talents of all the region and the country, around a proposal, aesthetic, managemental and of cultural extension, of value and originality, some of whose echoes, even resonate, in several places of Dominican Republic and the outside, by routes of the international emigration, of those and those, young and young people of 1990 to the date.

The other place, where I finish my adolescence and I began to turn towards the adultez, like being human, with a vocation, every time but determined by the creative work.

Finally to dedicate this line, deeply felt, to those who long before that this behavior was prescribed - and was be fashionable, at least in the speeches Latin American and Caribbean public in the mandatory one of the Educational National and Decennial Plans, our childhood and youth believed in, like alternative of freedom and alterity. Professors as Renán, lost in a sub-rural community then separated, although full of history, like the Alcarrizos (1974-1975), in the elementary school; as well as Rafael Duarte and Juan Jose Estévez, in the Evangelical Institute, Santiago (1976-1980).

Without them, its feedback, I stimulate and direction, had been little than less improbable, than - even on time partial he dedicated me to Literature or thinking aloud, from average electronic writings or.

In reciprocity with its sacrifices, I have followed its footpath of patience and love, with children and young people, for these decades.

B. About conscious influences...

Since 1976-today, I within the framework believe that of the surrealist life, between parnassians and symbolists, next to the ingredients of real the wonderful thing, thinking and writing Latin American, have been the conscious influences of my writing - without forgetting the contribution William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, from Beat Generation, with respect to the conscience and generational responsibility of the writer the same in the poetry, the test or the media.

On the other hand, other technical texts, that - like publisher, Co-publisher, Co-author, corrector of style, consultant or researcher- we have come articulating inside and outside the Cultural Center for Audio-visual, Exchange (CCIAV) of 1984-today…exist the cross-cultural and transdisciplinary axes -conforming axiological and methodological- affective debts to speeches and creative practices, for assume scientific organization in information, coming from multiple places and disciplines, specially works: Ezequiel Ander Egg- about socio-cultural animation and methodology of scientific research; Enrique Buenaventura- about methodology of Collective Creation School and its impact in the contemporary dramatic art -; Emile Benveniste - theory of the translation and the problem of the signs systems has multisupported or multiformat and its entailment to the multimedia -; Michel Foucault; Umberto Echo; Pierre Paolo Passolini; Pierre Bourdieu; Henri Lefevre; Henri Meschonnic; Pierre Giraud; Tom Peters; Pierre Levy; Luis Maria Huete; Valarie Zeithalm; Leonard L. Berry; June Rosenberg; Constantin Stanislavsky; Toby Cole; Lee Strasberg; Silvio Torres Saillant; Roberto Cassa; Norberto Bobbio; Pedro Mir; Diogenes Cespedes; Odalis Perez Nina; Manuel Matos Moquete; Manuel of the Cabral; Jean Baudrillard; Jean Cazaneuve; Noam Chomsky; Jacques Derrida;, Teun Van Dijk;, Nestor Garcia Canclini; Manuel Castells; Theodore Adorno; J. Habermas; J. Hamelin; Thomas Khun; Jose L. Aranguren; Yuri M. Lotman; Herbert Marcuse; Jesus Matin Barbero; ; Abraham Moles; L. Vigotsky, and others.

If I’ll arrive alive next Sunday, July 8th, 2007, I will fulfill 45 years old. I do not believe that in little or much I have left of life, it sees me in the necessity to jump or to abjure of these influences, unless the world derails, new time and consequently, must reinvent to me or recycle to me, in a new adaptive effort for the autoral survival.

A. Background…

Probably, in current days, few people, think that’s not critical factor in success, quality, and opportunities, for import and export, goods and services, processes, ideas and human freedom, using this kind of channels…Only one thing has changed: the contexts. Creativity is not more, a faculty, hide in darkness, appropriate only for eccentrics artists. Today, our business, communities, schools, chamber of commerce, families, governments, teams and co-workers, are demanding access to the creativity world, out the single meaning, oriented to arts, literary works or arts and crafts: Creative, be creative, creativity are now keys for survive the radical process of adaptation to new scenarios, within information, communication and knowledge society, starting a new century and millennium. The process- describes in the last paragraph- is impossible to be develop, successfully, ALONE, as a magical demiurge, if we recognize and understand, each one is not a reincarnation of Leonardo Da Vinci. Currently, the exceptional results are assigned to ordinary, persons, and they are doing it, better and better, each second, each day: acting and performing in work teams, learning how to get and receive confidence with strangers, coordinating collective solutions in arts, management, production, marketing, planning new products or services, for help each productive unit to gain visibility, quality, space into globalized world, particularly in non industrialized nations in Caribbean, African, Latin American, Asia, or East Europe. (A most formal vision about this particular subject is available, in our personal web: http://www.yoesantos.com/welcome1.html) In my case, we started our public efforts, into the fields, currently work, in La Vega and Santiago de los Caballeros, in our motherland, as all beginners and amateurs authors, in Caribbean regions, during 1976… (An extended version is available in this URL: http://www.yoesantos.com/subpage1.html) 2. I arrived by accident to the Internet (1996). In a short time, we observed: humanistic, social sciences, and management tools for small business -as fields with impacts in poor people- were sub or miss represented, in Internet contents, NOT only in our mother language: Spanish, in other American languages, including French, Quechua, Aymara, or Portuguese. The “invisibility” of local contents - problematic, efforts, people and organizations- suppose an strategic risk at the same time, less stimuli, for public channels, telecenters or communities investments -in access, popular appropriation- and enrichment the WWW universe, obtaining social, economics, technologic or cultural benefits, for closure or minimize social, cultural, scientific or economic divide, in humankind. I was arriving to the Net, 24 months late (the service started in Dominican Republic, in 1994), and I did it with to many confusion, prejudices and some times, the task made me feel afraid or perceive, I was wasting my time, and money, because probably 7 in each 10 friends, not expressed ANY interest for this emergent subject, two years after be installed the “Dominican Internet”. The other 3, in each 10 friends, had an e-mail account, and download information in their place of work or home, and they, SOME TIMES, decide to write something for be publish, there. Upload contents, about Caribbean or Dominican reality, culture or organizations, were not popular, in this time. I remember it, it was hard. We were tryin to re-learn, and probably do it for our lives, thinking in the velocity of changes and complexity in it. What to do with all experiences, feelings, processed information, and ways for develop an analysis, after this process, letting our fingerprints in a terra incognita? A certain world has dying… Before 1996, I was doing my things: without revolutionary interruptions as the Internet, and planning my career as other island inhabitants to the planet. I preferred management and creative fields, as B2B tools, taking action, in areas as: Consulting & Projects Design; NGOs; Corporative Research; CEO’s position in Cultural Center 4 Audio-Visual Exchange, a non profit organization, created for help and promote, local and non industrialized products, services and intangible in heritages, within audio-visual fields; Editing Support Systems and Services, in technical and artistic texts; Marketing & Public Relations Projects; Epistemic Consulting Services; Advertising Copyright; Contents as Management and Syndicate Provider for local and international mass and alternative medias; Coordination, participation and production educational materials for Seminars, Conferences and Workshops, about: Literary work, drama, audio-visual culture, management in cultural projects, into the Caribbean and Latin American contexts. I felt very stressful, and some times upset or frustrated, thinking about, our own appropriation progress in the ICTs, during these years (1996-1998). It was a personal challenge, too many complexity and new tools interconnected, when you try to start a text, and article, or comment, about anything. I was paying the price of immigration to a new universe: moving our interests from paper edition, to virtual world. In fist times, all the new thesaurus, made me feel afraid: cyber culture, cyber journalism, cyber management, the growing results in start ups or .com business. Less than 20 years ago, the kingdom of informatics technicians, had started in Dominican, after introduction the first PC, a diluvia of courses, techniques, words, gurus, showed up, in early 80s, ending XX century. I all these process a single poet or writer, or inclusive a management expert, had not chance or place, for exists: the nerds, and smart guys from programming, has the last word, but the contents, are generated by automatic pilot, and it still waiting for…be reinsert in the new socio-technique environment. In this point, I must to say thanks to Junior Palma, for invited me, the first time, to see and be connected, exploring as skeptic citizen the Internet, in these early times, for our interests.
