Member of the Governing Body for Blackgates Junior School. Appointed Member of the Temporary Governing Body for the amalgamation of Blackgates Infants and Blackgates Junior Schools 2004. Appointed Member of Governing Body of Blackgates Primary School September 2004.

Appointed Education Officer for Morley South Branch of the Labour Party, responsible for ensuring that schools in the Morley area are fully subscribed with governors.

Member of West Ardsley Methodist Church, a Circuit Member, a Reader and a Welcoming Steward.

Member of the Management Committee for UCA House with special responsibility for buildings and staff / management training and development. UCA House is a 20 bed aged people’s home located in Leeds.

Member of the Territorial Army. Awarded the following medals:
• The “TE” medal in 1982
• The “TD” medal in 1994

Appointed Second in Command of 23 Leeds Company RAOC (V) 1986, Regimental Signal Officer 2 Ordnance Battalion 1990, Commanding Officer 260 Squadron RLC (V) 1994. Was on standby for the 1992 Gulf War.

Member of the Institute of Electrical and electronics Incorporated Engineers. Member of the interviewing panel and interviewed applicants for membership in the North East and Midlands from 1988 to 1992.

Member of the East Midlands Energy Management Group, the Nottingham Green Partnership Energy Group and the Nottinghamshire Environmental Topic Forum. I Chaired the Nottingham City Council Energy Conservation Group, had regular meetings with staff of the Energy Efficiency Office and attended most of the seminars organised by the Energy Efficiency Office.
