Muhammad Hesham is an Egyptian poet and scholar who writes both in Arabic and English. His publications include Lahzatan (“Two Moments”), a collection of poems in Arabic, and Once Upon a Time, a collection of poems in English. He has translated into Arabic poems by Emily Dickinson, William Butler Yeats, Ted Hughes, Sylvia Plath, Paul Eluard, Matsu Basho, and Pablo Neruda. In addition to writing and translating poetry, he is a lecturer of English literature at Helwan University, Cairo, Egypt. His M.A thesis (1994) is entitled “The Elegiac Mode in the Poetry of Emily Dickinson”, while his Ph.D. thesis (2001) is entitled “The Poetics of Silence as manifested in the works of Emily Dickinson, Sylvia Plath and Stevie Smith”.
