From Rags to Riches

Who says you can’t find true love on the Net? I was chatting to a Ukrainian girl at a gallery opening last night who told me she’d met her prince on the Internet. They married within six months in her village, and then, he took her to live with him in his mansion in the West.

She never cooks, she never cleans, she never works. She’s always by his side. She does little for him. She isn’t pretty. Lacks communication skills. But she seems to have it made.

Her fleeting remarks got me wondering. What’s she got that I don’t have? Is it youth? Long legs? Beautifully manicured long red nails? I surmise she’s good in bed.

Over a glass of champagne I asked her, “Do you find it easy to meet people here?” She replied in strongly accented English, “We have each other. We don’t need friends.” Generation X – a different breed.

We 50somethings did everything to please. Grandmothers’ favorite saying , “A man’s love goes through his stomach”, obviously means nothing to this nubile nymph. Maybe it’s time for me to rethink. To take a leaf out of her book. The trouble is caution is my watchword.

Ha! I met my husband on the Net. I work. I clean. I cook. I love him dearly...even before we met in person. The Net is just this century's answer to bar hopping (yuck!). Try it, Vera! You never know! :)
