He painted this from reports he received from many sailors.
It was state of the art, science, religion and wisdom at the time.
Especially notable is his rendition of the Tree Aloe of Namibia, as the Tree of Life!

The Porcupine from Florida and other Mythical Creatures, such as the Unicorn,
The Narwhals, Penguins, Seals, and other Wildlife of the Poles, numerous Birds,
The Rainforest of Brazil and the Wildlife of Africa, such as Elephants and Giraffes.
