This picture tells a thousand stories when the burros and the wild mountain goats roamed freely in the days of the gold miners and Cripple Creek. These are wild Colorado Mountain goats of Sage's area. They can charge you at any minute, standing up on their hind legs. Sage imprints with them by feeding them cracked corn in a burlap gunnysack she totes with her on her journey up the mountain to Cripple Creek. It was a lucky day at the slots for Sage this day. Her salmon-pink bandanna and pink Roper cowgirl boots had something to do with it all. These items are spiritual.
Sage's journey that day of the picture was trekking up to Cripple Creek, Colorado where she frequents the gambling establishments to warm her quill for inspiration at the slots.
Sage Sweetwater and Cripple Creek are one, wild and blazing sevens! She keeps an exclusive room at Midnight Rose booked year round, the original old-day brothel next to Womacks. The staff keeps her in whiskey spirits with a monogrammed Midnight Rose shot glass in the drawer next to Gideon's Bible. Her books are sold in a gift store menagerie in Cripple Creek, an old gold mining town turned casino town with the original old-day theme, where the mountain lesbians are plenty and thriving. Sage recently spent a special afternoon in Cripple Creek at the Rocky Mountain Canary General Mercantile gathered around the 50 gallon wooden pickle barrel signing her books for the women. She purchases wooden nickels stamped with Rocky Mountain Canary good for 25 cents to hand out with her autographed lesbian pulp fiction novels.
Sage Sweetwater and her lesbian pulp fiction novels are from a different time and a different place...different from a tabloid writer's dream of gossip and rivalry. It's a good place to live, the mountains in high country Colorado, in company with all that throbs, mists, and leaches in nature.
