The Law of Attraction is a very powerful spiritual law that works in conjunction with other universal laws.
Having studied esoteric wisdom most of my life, I am ecstatic that The Secret by Rhonda Byrne has drawn so much attention to the Law of Attraction. However, my concern is that the media spin on The Secret will turn it into a fad and it will not be taken seriously by the masses. The Law of Attraction is not just about using positive thinking to accumulate the perfect life of wealth, health, and fame. It is a principle that works with other laws based on a scientific method. Unfortunately, herein lies the problem with The Secret; it doesn't tell about the connection of the Law of Attraction to the Hermetic laws in order for it to work according to its purpose.
The Law of Attraction is not one of the Hermetic laws; however, you might see it listed as one of the seven laws in many esoteric teachings. For clarification let me list the Hermetic laws that are attributed to Thoth (Hermes Trismegistus), the Egyptian god of science and writing: Law of Mentalism, Law of Correspondence, Law of Vibration, Law of Polarity, Law of Rhythm, Law of Cause and Effect and the Law of Gender. The Law of Attraction and the Hermetic laws are inseparable, interconnected and tell how the universe and everything in it works.
Larry King devoted a show to The Secret. He had several of the contributing writers respond to questions from the public. The public asked such questions as: Did the people in the twin towers on 9/11 attract that awful fate to themselves? Were they responsible for what happened to themselves? One of the writers fluffed over the answer. She didn't explain how the Law of Attraction works in catastrophic situations. She gave a classic philosophical answer and not the truth that the seven Hermetic laws are responsible for all life and not just one law. Most of the writers found themselves in the same boat; they couldn't clearly define how the law works, except for Joe Vitale.
There have been many books written about the Law of Attraction and the other laws. Why has The Secret stired so much attention? Perhaps, Rhonda Byrne and her contributing writers are doing what they advocate--putting out thoughts that attract attention and success. I believe that the Hermetic laws and especially the great Law of Cycles (there is a time for everything) also kicked in. It is the perfect storm.
