I have pondered alot over the last few days and I have discovered that even thougth my works arent selling as well as I would like, I allowed that to depress me and ask myself the age old question. Why am I doing this. I came to the conculsion that its not the selling that drives me. Its the passion I have for writing. My passion to express in words love stories that come from my heart and my soul. Creating other lives outside of my own and people that I feel come alive when ever I sit down at the keys. Its an art just like singing or playing in a band or picking up a paint brush. As you all can attest to, we write and while we are writing we are dicovering times and places that we didnt know exsisted. We pour our souls out on paper and live every second to do just what we do. We are writers and it doesnt matter if they sell or dont sell. Its that passion that keeps us all going.
I was just reading On Writing by Stephen King on this very subject He agrees with you about writing versus selling. While selling your writing work is great, he says and I agree, a writer writes to come alive and maybe to add a unique story that can only be told in his or her voice. Thank you for the post and keep on writing since it seems that's what you were born to do.
