The dedicated, pet loving staff at The North Shore Animal League of America, the world’s largest ‘No Kill’ animal shelter, acknowledges the fact that the actual birthdates of most of America’s rescued dogs will never be known.
But to give these wonderful animals some much deserved recognition and celebration, the Animal League is holding their first annual Doggie Birthday Bash today, on August 1, 2008; to be known hereafter as ‘DOGust the First.’
They are even offering discounted dog adoption rates and party goodies this entire Birthday Weekend.
They are hoping that the first day of the eighth month of 2008, or DOGust the First, will become the universal birthday for rescued dogs, everywhere. So please wish your favorite rescued dog a Very Happy Birthday, today!
Thousands of America’s now extremely loyal family pets began their lives as homeless strays, or as unwanted, discarded, throw-away animals, at one of our nation’s thousands of animal shelters.
But luckily for them, some compassionate human soul recognized their great worth, rescued them, and provided them with a loving new home.
So please wish your favorite rescued dog a Happy Birthday, today; and if you’re feeling the slightest bit heroic, also please visit an animal shelter near your home this weekend, and rescue an unwanted, homeless canine, yourself.
After Katrina roared in, animal shelters throughout our land, including The North Shore Animal League, were sadly filled with these truly deserving left behind dogs; and very sadly today, three years later, America’s shelters are once again overflowing with so many truly wonderful and deserving canines, who have now also so very sadly lost their own homes to our truly abysmal, home foreclosure, home forfeiture, pet abandonment, real estate tragedy today.
Perhaps you can make this epic new DOGust the First weekend a birthday celebration both you and your new canine friend, will never forget.
My four furry canine friends think this is a marvelous idea, and my spouse is baking them a Doggie Birthday Cake, right now! (Carrot, their favorite kind.)
But our cats are now a tad envious, so I hope someone comes up with a Rescued Feline Birthday Celebration, too.
