President Bush's legacy is discussed with the First Lady. A discussion that brings some surprises.

THE BUSH LEGACY

“George, in a few more weeks, you will become an ex-president. What sort of legacy do you think you leave after two consecutive mandates?”
Our beloved president smiled graciously at the First Lady across the breakfast table, swallowed the pretzel he had been savoring and replied;
“First Lady, historians, academicians and political sages are already working on the numerous initiatives in my administration that have transformed this country, that I found involved in an erotic quagmire, back to its rightful place as a trusted and supreme world leader!”
The First Lady is by nature a polite and discreet person not given to expressions of amazement, surprise or disbelief, but in this instance, the President’s reply elicited a burst seldom heard from the First Lady:
“George, that is a crock of you know what! You better face the facts and prepare for the indifference and dislike of your person by just about every nation on Earth!”
The President laughed heartily this time. To hear dear Laura even suggest the use of an expletive or a censurable phrase, gave him some secret satisfaction. “Beyond being a proper lady, she is still human” he thought! Then he said:
“I know that, First Lady. I do not expect Chavez, Il Sung, Sarkozy, Ivo, Mukwabe, Ahmadinesomething, Putin, Ortega and the entire Harvard Business School Faculty to look upon my busy years with any degree of empathy or fairness. Like dear old Dick, all I can say to them is you know what!”
The First Lady shook her head and, having decided to pursue the matter, insisted:
“Dear, I think that you should be concerned about the matter. You have your remaining years to live and you would want them to be years of peace, love and satisfactions.”
She paused to drink more coffee; she hated lukewarm coffee and had always despised those who drank it cold not aware of the offense committed against such precious beverage when it is allowed to become cold and lose the magic and mystery of its fuming presence. She added:
“Recognizing one’s errors is a signs of greatness. Remember Alexander Hamilton, John Hancock, Richard Nixon and even George Steinbrenner who admitted their errors and mistakes after they had left their positions of authority. I do not know how history will judge your Iraq adventure. That has been probably the most important event that you have engineered as president and also the most disgraceful!”
“First Lady, you have missed the whole point all these years; you must stop reading the New York Times! The war in Iraq has meant the liberation of the noble Iraqi nation and the sowing in the entire Islam community of the benefits of freedom and democracy. It was also the most realistic warning to those who at any time harbored ill feelings against the US or were even prepared to commit another grave attack! I shall continue to guard humanity against evil!”
Again, the First Lady smiled showing no credibility in the President’s words. She said:
“George, please face it. Your are about to become part of history and must accept it! You must look ahead and find a way to live the rest of your life in peace with yourself and with the rest of the world. Something that provides you with daily satisfactions and have no ill consequences on others!”
The President looked at the First Lady with that look that involves almost closed eyes and a smirky looking smile and answered:
“And what would that be, you wise First Lady?’
“Removing the brush in the Crawford Ranch! I have never seen any one so skillful in removing the damn brush so well!”
The President turned serious. He got up abruptly and left the room prompting the First Lady to ask:
“Now, where are you going, ex-President?”
“To a meeting with Hanity, O’Reilly and Limbaugh. We are planning my Library!”
