Logical thinking can lead to strange illogical reactions. Even in the shower!

THE ILLOGICAL TWISTS OF LOGIC

I always thought that logic lent a touch of veracity and credibility to events, assertions and theses. For instance, if you take a shower, it is logical that you get wet. Such conclusion gathers contemporary philosophical logic that in this case blends existence (the shower) essence (your naked body) and simple logic.
I had not realized however that a negative side of logic exists. If applied deftly, it can lead to the conclusion that standing naked under an operating shower head can produce numberless situations that oppose the original ‘getting wet’ action. I continued to be puzzled so I stopped taking showers and decided to ask the Professor.
He was standing by the window of his comfortable home with a coffee mug in his hands. He turned around when I delivered the shower example and smiled. He observed:
“At least I hope you are using the tub.”
We laughed and then he added:
“Applying logic to any situation or even object is like driving on a highway. There is always the main stretch of road but there are always numberless side roads, by-passes, stops and potholes. Your example of the shower can be used in side roads of different kinds; for instance, it can be argued that a shower is anti-American because if contributes to the extinction of a natural resource. It can also be blamed on unwanted pregnancies if it is argued that if a couple take a shower together it can not avoid the nearness effect that is certain to lead to more intimate actions!”
He thought for a moment and then asked me:
“Are you concerned at the systematic ‘illogical’ pronouncements of politicians, glib talk-show hosts and hostesses, and the swarms of reporters, pundits and journalists? I detect that you have been affected by the recent elections where the logic of many situations was twisted like pretzels and used as barbs, insinuations, accusations and subtle and not so subtle condemnations.”
“I guess you are right Professor. There seems to be an ‘illogical’ counter to almost any situation, especially in the political arena; in many cases the ‘illogics’ are so infantile as to merit free tuition at the Idiot’s College for those who deliver them!”
The Professor nodded and asked:
“Are you staying for dinner?’
“No thanks. I have a date and have to get home.”
“Make sure you take a shower!”
“I intend to. Alone!”
