An article about, Champions, Heroes & Icons - Ten Who Stood Tall," the inaugural poetry gala held on 11/17/09, welcoming the community to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library's newly renovated Black Studies Center.

The "Ten Who Stood Tall" who were honored were: Rosa Parks, Duke Ellington, Thurgood Marshall, Marian Anderson, Langston Hughes, Dr. Carter G. Woodson, Jackie Robinson, Malcolm X, Paul Robeson and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
