"I laughed so hard the people on the bus figured I was mental."
That comment came from a friend in Wales who was reading Blue Collar B&B, Adventures in Hospitality.
I've gotten used to people telling me my book made them laugh, but when it was first out, I was surprised--delighted, of course--but also bemused that readers found it laugh out loud hilarious.
You see, I didn't write Blue Collar to be funny. I was simply relating my experiences trying to run a B&B in Vancouver, with less than helpful input from peculiar neighbors and eccentric friends.
Charles Dickens, when asked his formula for writing success, said, "Make 'em laugh, make 'em cry, make 'em wait."
Looks like I only have two more to go to get it perfect!
