The Sketches-Dastkari
With reference to the khaver siddiqi’s sound check musical review about,’’the
sketches-Dastkari(Dawn Images march 7, 2010).where in the writer called the album:
Like a breath of fresh air to come across musicians who are actually passionate about their music but I am of opinion that sketches are the great artists who, by their talent , hard work, and dedication, show us new possibilities, new ways of doing and seeing the things beautifully through a new concept of music:folk+devotional+Gothic music.
Sketches deserve to be nominee of United Nations for their song “Maujood”, in which a theme of human oneness has been highlighted to fulfill the need of human re-union the much needed thing of our age. Because this song says:
“Oh Allah you are present in my mind but due to ego I have drifted away from you I have guide me to lead me correctly” (Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai).
Album’s song Maujood is a Sufi song, Alan faqeer in his calm and common shrine-full style with four beats has performed this song before, but the vocalist Saif did this song in seven beats consist of eastern and western musical instruments using both the music professionally so that song may reach to the eastern and western listeners and he successfully did his job to mingle the Sufi music with gothic music. And music knowing persons will agree with me that it was always very difficult to shape a song in two musics, believed as antonyms to each other , i.e. Gothic music :A style of rock music, popular in the 1980s, that developed from punk music popular for sole satisfaction of Goths who listen to Goths music and wear black clothes and black and white make-up .On the other hand Sufi music :The Music of holy saints of the world who teaches importance and happiness of the life to the people of all kinds.
The sketches for their song Maujood, deserves broad scale exposure, so government of sindh should arrange foreign tours for the band .This is a necessary task, because the sketches are the first musicians of the world with a new idea of music that is not for the end of the world. Sketches have a crystal clear thought and that is just like a code of practice for interfaith followers. For Tony blare faith foundation Maujood provides a line of action: faith unites us- faith never divides us.
The Sketches-Dastkari album provides lot of things to do those who they want to work in the favor of peace loving people of East and West .Vocalist Saif ,guitarist Naeem shah ,music composers and arrangers Kaiser Zain and Salman Akhtar ,in my opinion are the best inventors of a new kind of music that will surprise you by Gothic intro of Sufi kalam Maujood very first but immediately it will take you to the point that our Sufi music is just like a gentle host with open doors for every known and unknown only for the satisfaction of souls. Space for Gothica in sketches indicates that our Sufi music is ocean of music for every kind of musical flow. World leaders can learn a lesson and method of uniting people of different faiths in the light of this Sindhian’s created musical album. Each song of Sketches will teach them how talent and perseverance helped turn the “impossible” into possible?
