Excerpt: Christmas in Ireland evokes the faith and bucolic lifestyle of an unpretentious people. Most holiday traditions arose out of suffering and persecution. These traditions now celebrate the courage and indomitable spirit that personifies the Emerald Isle. An old saying goes, ""If you're lucky enough to be Irish, then you're lucky enough." During Christmas, the Irish give thanks for their good fortune to weather any tragedy.
