SB 1070 -- Policy or Bigotry?

The illegal immigrant issue as explained by a Mexican...American

As most people know, Arizona governor Jan Brewer signed Senate Bill 1070 in April, and by the end of July it will be in effect, basically giving law enforcement agencies and enforcement agents along the Arizona border cause to identify, prosecute, and deport illegal immigrants without proper documentation. I personally believe that this law is bordering (excuse the expression) on being socially unethical and will give Arizonans fuel to be "lawfully bigoted" against any Hispanic who doesn't fit the bill. Every time I hear this issue on the news, I picture in my head a "1984" scenario where families spy on their neighbors looking for supposed "illegal alien" activity, ready to phone the authorities with anything suspect.

What if a Mexican had proper papers stating he could be here legally, yet a border patrol agent had caught him at a bad time when he didn't have it on him? Have you ever gone out without your ID card, wallet, or keys? Why should someone be prosecuted for being absent-minded?

I do believe this Senate Bill is bending to the will of the Republican sprawl, trying to keep "America for Americans", while in reality, everybody in this country is only a few generations away from being immigrants themselves. I liken this hypocracy to the Civil War, where Southern plantation owners were barking about states' rights when they were denying rights to their slaves. Come to think about it, America was formed under a veil of hypocracy, trying not to seem too ready for war, yet not wanting to look like pushovers when dealing with foriegn nations.

What I find hilarious is Senator John McCain, an avid supporter of the bill. Wasn't he trying his best to win Hispanic support for him when he ran for President? Now I foresee him and Gov. Brewer will never get the Hispanic vote when it comes time for reelection. That's a huge voting block that they won't get back, not when you're trying to deport some of their family members. We don't forget when someone wrongs us, and most Hispanics can hold a grudge for many years.

I figure with the Mexican drug cartels warring along the border states, why would illegal immigrants want to stay in Mexico? I would leave if my home was being terrorized by thugs with money and big guns.

Although I do see why Americans would want Mexican immigrants to go back. They don't pay taxes that support healthcare, schools, welfare assistance, and so on. Most don't even like being in this country, and proclaim how great Mexico is. Most still have family in Mexico that they send their paychecks to.

I love being an American first of all, yet I love my Mexican heritage too. in my opinion our food and music is great, our soap operas eh, not so great. We're a passionate people who love to celebrate life and work hard despite the stereotype of being lazy and dirty. I think most of this immigration reform is a subliminal type of population control. Hispanics are dominating the American culture, creeping in slowly like a massive thunderstorm. I'm sorry to say, White America, we're growing and we're here to stay -- so just deal with it.

A Guide to Chinese Affairs by Robert Liu

This is a political treatise that deals with the China issue from a completely new perspective. Disparaging as he may sound, from page to page, toward "the old system" and the Communist Party's various wiles, the author demonstrates his mysteriously
