Exploring the dark recesses of the human mind searching for the lost and hidden powers that lie within might seem an interesting and fairly harmless challenge when viewed from within the confines of the comfortable, cloistered world of academia.
Within the science labs of Cambridge University Professor Harman-Jones and his team have for years been looking at the phenomena known as ‘Out of Body or Near Death’ experiences by studying anyone who has undergone such an experience firsthand. The professor has a theory that this is just one of many human mental powers that we, as a species, have, or had, and over the eon of time we have lost. His theories conclude that these powers merely lie dormant within the human brain.
However to an outsider, one with a more realistic understanding of the darker side of human nature, such theories may seem interesting but to his way of thinking such notions are far from harmless.
As the Inner Space story develops Police Detective Nick Burton is at first high sceptical of such theories but as his investigations progress he discovers that these are not merely the wild imaginings of some sort of mad professor but are actually proven scientific fact at least within Harman-Jones’s laboratory.
If such powers ever moved out of the controlled academic world and into the world outside what then?
As if the real world isn’t already full of conspiracy theories and dark deeds by hands unseen, stirred up by the likes of Dan Brown and along I come with a big wooden spoon and give the pot a stir.
Brown’s world shows the dark underside of the Church and religion, together we demonstrate that Information is power and for thousands of years certain groups of men have maintained power by withholding information. POWER is perhaps the most addictive of drugs and for centuries the main tool of control has always been FEAR... That was until man invented MONEY!
For two thousand odd years the Church was the main custodian of information, they had it we didn’t, it was that simple. So if the Bible said God created the heaven and the earth in six days, it was so. If the Church decreed that the Earth was the centre of the universe and the Sun and the stars revolved about us then so Be It and woe betide any who challenge the Church.
It’s highly unlikely that any man of science deliberately set out to challenge the authority of the Church. Indeed in many instances men of science were in the pay of the Church, until of course we get to Galileo's support for Copernicus’s heliocentric theory got him into trouble with the Roman Catholic Church. In 1633 the Inquisition convicted him of heresy and forced him to recant his support of Copernicus and the fact that the earth and the other planets orbited the sun.
Such ignorance and the blatant misuse of power drove science underground and led to secret societies of great thinkers where men of science could speak openly without fear of persecution.
The society of Free Masons was already well established when another group the Illuminati appeared in 1776, does that date ring any bells ? Let me give you a clue..... “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal....”
Perhaps the fact that many of the men party to the writing of that document were themselves Freemasons and within a couple of months of the creation of the Illuminati they are declaring Independence from Great Britain. Add to that Masonic symbols appear on the currency of the US, then you can understand where many of the conspiracy theories are born.
Such conspiracy theories have haunted the secret world of Freemasonry ever since prompting questions as to the existence of an Inner Circle a group so powerful that they have an unnatural influence over Governments and Worldwide affairs.
Could it be that there is a new Illuminati ? Or has the old one merely resurfaced as the invisible Prophets of Capitalism an elite group so powerful they control the financial resources of the world? Have we a paramasonic order that recruits their disciples from within the highly disciplined and secretive world of Freemasonry itself ?
For Nick Burton, has all his dire warnings come too late and is his worst nightmare about to become a reality ?
And if so...What the hell can he do about it ?
