Omar Khayyam’s Rubaiyat

Omar Khayyam was one of famous Persian poet in Islam world about 1100 A.C. He was not only poet, also mathematician and astronomer. I suppose, he fabricated “The Rubaiyat” in view of painful event in his life, which had been escape as verse of trust, desire and pleasure. It is formed as four-line rhymes, which is powerful and sacred.

It is formed as four-line rhymes, which is powerful and sacred.

“The palace where Jamshid held his cup
The doe and the fox now rest and sup
Bahram who hunted game non-stop
Was hunted by death when his time was up.”

In above line Poet wanted to explain, “Every person must be destroyed, whether he/she is an oppressor, who rather will be more punished than other persons after death”.

Once he found a light of new dawn, felt joy without dishearten –

“O friend, for the morrow let us not worry
This moment we have now, let us not hurry
When our time comes, we shall not tarry
With seven thousand-year-olds, our burden carry.”

Poet Khayam wished lover, flower and wine as accompany and denoted them as joy in his literature. Though he was swimming in painful sea, he might walk in peace by such symbolic word. It is meant that, love may remove grief, thus any body can forgets grief through affection. Omar was a man who loved all else wine, sometimes he was touched resurrection-hope-romance-heaven through wine.


Once he did not intend to born –

“If my coming were up to me, I’d never be born
And if my going were on my accord, I’d go with scorn
Isn’t it better that in this world, so old and worn
Never to be born, neither stay, nor be away torn? “


Today a lot of flowers have been falling on Omar’s graveyard since a long while, which he wished in his life.
