A Vampire avenger stalks the streets of Tampa, taking down evil one bite at a time.

Of course I needed to ratchet up the tension somewhat, so I made Lucinda the hunted as well as the hunter.  So I thought, who would be most likely to hunt a vampire, especially if the regular city police were not believers.  Of course the church, so I came up with the ex-cardinal turned vampire hunter, hot on her trail.  The FBI agent who saw her making a kill, and is now the joke of the Bureau.  An ancient vampire who needs to stop her before she gives the whole game away, and the ever more powerful humans decide to wipe out the breed.  And Deshawn, the ex-NFL defensive tackle turned pimp who Lucinda kills, and is interrupted by the FBI agent before she can complete the transaction.  I thought, if a man or woman with twenty times normal strength is awesome, then how about a two hundred and eighty pound, five hundred pound bench pressing, hunk of muscle.  How awesome would that be?  Ultimate  killer awesome.  But lacking the brains of the heroine of the story.

I set the story to the location of Tampa, the sunny bay area, next to the beaches of St. Petersburg and the farm country of Hillsborough County.  I had relatives in Tampa when I was growing up, uncles and aunts that we used to frequently visit.  I felt familiar enough with the location to look over some maps and photos and know that I could represent it well.  Add in a crime boss, some lesser bosses and some pimps and drug dealers, and I had my story.

I went over the book several times before submitting it to the two publisher who would look at it, then many more times before sending it to agents in 2010.  I got form responses from the publishers, and a variety of responses from agents, the most common being that the vampire thing was over done.  Some agreed to look at it because the idea seemed different from what was already out there, the vampires are really good people with special abilities story line.  I was told that it was well written, but no something they thought they could sell in the market of the day.  So it was on to something else.  I did two more revisions before putting it on Amazon, and thought it was a really good story.  I felt there was a good flow to the story, that it had action enough to keep a reader turning the page.  I hope that its day will come.
