This article describes the Norse goddess, Freya and the symbolism used in the historical romance novel, CONQUERED SHORES.
In my book, CONQUERED SHORES, I did extensive research on on the Norse goddess, Freya. Though she has a cameo appearance in the story, I feel that she plays an important role in bringing our two lovestruck characters together.
Freya is quite an interesting character, and I wanted to include elements of symbolism used in mythology. She is the goddess of Love, Beauty and War--a very fitting character for my novel. She is the leader of the Valkyrie (women warriors), and wears a necklace called Brisingamen that she received from dwarves. Freya is known for her beauty and sexuality.
Cats are sacred to her; therefore, I incorporated a scene in CONQUERED SHORES immortalizing my two cats--a clever little trick that I enjoy doing.
I hope to inspire my readers by encouraging them to research Freya and to understand the symbolism I have used in this book. Freya's feather cloak, Loki, Brisingamen, moonstone and amber--these are just a few mythological elements I use in creating a story that is not only sexually charged, but also magically adventuresome.
