A recent study involving more than 6,000 female participants has concluded that those women who suffered from vitamin D deficiency were most likely relative to those who did not suffer from vitamin D deficiency, or whose levels were not optimal but fell short of qualifying as deficient, to develop cognitive decline with aging, including but not limited to Alzheimer's disease.

Women Low in Vitamin D More Likely to Come Down with Alzheimer's

By: Peter Egan

Add Alzheimer's Disease and general cognitive decline in women as yet another potential consequence of failure to ingest sufficient levels of vitamin D on a regular basis throughout one's life.

A new study published in the Journals of Gerontology Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences involving 6,257 women determined that those whose vitamin D levels were below-normal were most likely to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease or experience a state of general cognitive decline.

The human body absorbs vitamin D through exposure to sunlight, and civilized society has become so indoor-oriented that a majority of people do not receive the necessary sun exposure required to ensure optimal health. Food generally speaking does not offer adequate vitamin D3, the form absorbed from sunlight which is far more readily absorbed and processed by the human body than synthetic forms of the nutrient.

Vitamin D deficiency can be reversed by way of routine and prolonged sunbathing while wearing minimal clothing, as well as by way of oral supplementation.

The study was reported on by the Vitamin D3 Blog.

I'm truly amazed by the sheer volume of health maladies that have now been linked to vitamin D deficiency.
