 Fenway Park – Boston

Where the Athletes Eat

Fenway Park was built in 1912 and just over one hundred years later, this iconic establishment still stands tall as past legends and heroes make the confines of the ballpark their home. As one enters the stadium, echoing voices of all time Red Sox greats watch over the public as the hairs on their neck slowly begin to creep on end. Ted Williams with his towering homerun shots and Carlton Fisk with his fearless dives into the Fenway stands are a couple of vivid images that all visitors to the park continually envision as they pass with anticipation through the history and achievements that both past and present players have created.

On Tuesday July 30th 2013 I was fortunate enough to align myself with the historical building as my vacation plans whisked me away to beautiful Boston, Massachusetts. Fenway park is located in the heart of the city at 4 Yawkey Way and it’s an adventure that each soul who visits Boston should embark on, whether you’re a baseball fan or not. The monumental stadium recently celebrated its one hundredth anniversary and consequently has become a historical figure. The legendary ballpark has gone through multiple renovations over the years such as creating additional seating and parking for fans, as well as a widened concourse for food vendors all the while maintaining its old, vintage green monster look.

A few things to consider when visiting the ballpark include the Fenway tours, hotels and transportation. I was extremely lucky to have been given a personal tour, compliments of Aramark Sports and Entertainment, however, get to the park early in the day (they do not take reservations) or your hopes of a stadium tour will be quickly dashed as they tend to sell out at a rapid pace. Fenway tours are available year round at a cost of $16 dollars (Boston Go Card can be used) and depart at the top of each hour from gate D.

With respect to lodging, selection in the core can be quite tricky as game days become extremely hectic.  Boston is home to a plethora of hotels both near and far, so considering a place to stay outside of the Fenway area is not the end of the world. As a matter of fact, it may be the best option as most hotels offer free shuttle service to and from the closest train stations. In addition, Bostonians are very helpful and the subway system, in my opinion, is the easiest of all the big city subways to navigate.

If Boston, Massachusetts is the destination of choice in the near future, be sure to set aside some time to visit and be a part of “America’s Most Beloved Ballpark.” The heavy pulse of Fenway Park surely, will not disappoint!
