The zodiac is a carnal representation of who we really are in God. Once we know our identity in God we can do anything.

TRUE ORIGINS OF ASTROLOGY AND THE ZODIAC Astrology has been around since the 1st century BC and is the study of the influence of stars and planets on each individual; it is believed to play a major role in the shaping of their personality along with their future. The Zodiac is a form of western astrology, where the movement of the sun at the time of a person’s birth brings forth revelations about his/her physical traits, characteristics, state of mind, etc. It can dictate our lives and change the course of a person’s day. The intentions of the zodiac and astrology is to make a person aware of the future they are destined to have. It is a system that if a person is not careful they can easily fall victim to. An attempt must be made to look at the Zodiac more clearly before we make an assessment on the validity of Astrology as a whole. What if there was more to the zodiac than we have been lead to believe? Is there a way to justify the Zodiac sign of a person versus their life plan laid out by God himself? So these are the questions that must be answered in order to get a better understanding with what we are dealing when considering the Zodiac. These are the questions that every Christian that has been asked, “So, what’s your sign?” needs an answer to as well. The word astrology has its roots in the Greek language, in which it means “account of the stars”. Dating back to the 2nd millennium BC. Astrology’s goal is to determine the relationship between the astronomical phenomena and worldly occurrences The ancient Babylonians began a study of the stars in the 1st century BC. Astrology originated in confusion. Man had, some knowledge of the primitive zodiac which go back to the foundation of the world, although these truths were mostly lost or corrupted and perverted before the flood. Genesis 11:4 says “Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” Even from the beginning the Babylonians wanted to control the heavens and make a name for themselves. After the flood the Babylonians led by Nimrod wanted to do away with the God that created them. They believed they could usurp the power of the Creator of Heaven and earth. We know how that story ended yet they are not the only civilization to look to the skies for guidance in matters of the heart, state, and war. The Greeks influenced Egyptian astrology with what they learned from the Babylonians. Ptolemy wrote a book on astrology that set down the current practice of using planets, houses and signs. Alexander the Great brought the practice of Astrology to the people of Egypt when he invaded in approx. 334 BC. The Egyptians followed the example of the people of Greece and began to study the stars for answers to their questions. They used the practice to determine the character of a person. Their priest used Astrology to determine the will of the gods for the Pharaoh and his subjects. How do we really look at the nature of our zodiac symbol, after all, we are born on a specific date on the calendar and most of the time the personality traits are painfully there. “Let’s take a look at the sign Aquarius, according to the Zodiac, they are very outgoing and outspoken, humane, frank, serious minded, genial, refined, and idealistic, though this last quality is tempered with a sensible practicality. This author can attest to the fact that all those character traits are present in her life. Who created the stars in the first place and what was the intention for them? Genesis 1:14 says “And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:” God indicates in this passage His purpose for the lights in the sky. Since God gives us these signs in the heavens, are we supposed to govern our lives by them or are they simply placed there to be a guide? Let’s examine the first question are we supposed to govern our lives by the stars and planets? According to popular thought our personalities are controlled by these celestial bodies. God obviously put the lights in the sky there so that must mean that is how he wants us to govern our lives and live accordingly. The stars are placed there by God so they cannot be wrong. They control the flesh and really what is wrong with that? We are only people so we should not be held responsible for our actions. From the viewpoint of the rest of the world this idea is perfect but how does God see us? God tends to look at us completely different than we look at ourselves. God looks at us through the blood of his son Jesus, which eliminates the power of the stars to govern our day to day activity. With each passing day we as Christians ask ourselves WWJD. Psalm 1:3-4 states “But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.” God’s people are like this tree, if pruned correctly it will yield good fruit. If however we are left to be governed by the flesh (Zodiac) we fall victim to the lusts of the flesh and the pitfalls that also come with the sign we were born under. So if God does not expect us to live by the signs in the stars, why are they even there? These signs are real and they do have a governing affect upon the lives of people living on this planet. We see the personality traits of people we come in contact with and say “he acts like a Libra or she acts like a Scorpio.” These traits are real and apparent to the person or people that we deal with daily. 1 Corinthians 13:11 says “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.” So we must consider that before we come to know Christ we are still in our childlike state. We are subject to and governed by the stars, moon, and sun’s whims and fancies. After we are saved and salvation becomes a part of our lives, we submit ourselves to what God has said about his people. We are no longer governed by the flesh, we are now “…a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9) This is a part of knowing who we are in God’s Kingdom. We endeavor to grow in God’s garden and He is to prune us so that we can grow spiritually and exhibit the characteristics of His Kingdom. We have no choice about when and where we are born, yet God has chosen us. “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love.” (Ephesians 1:4.) Because of God’s choice of us we get to live in his light and become a new creature in Him. Our signs are a part of us but they do not define us as a people. We are new and as God trims the bad branches off of our tree we are allowed to grow and nurture the good traits that are left over in our personalities.
