Monitoring Internet traffic and text messages were the basis of bringing a corrupt Detroit mayor down. They were used on city devices, therefore admissible in court.
Text messaging, other messaging, emails, and phone calls admissible in court. If there's a reason to investigate, and a proper search/surveillance warrant is in place, law enforcement can and will confiscate that person(s) of interest device.
"Person of interest" is a term used in U.S. law enforcement when identifying someone involved in a criminal investigation who has not been arrested or formally accused of a crime. It has no legal meaning, but refers to someone in whom the police are "interested", either because the person is cooperating with the investigation, may have information that would assist the investigation, or possesses certain characteristics that merit further attention.
Monitoring and analyzing data, corporate surveillance, mining data through affiliations, micro-aerial vehicles, automated facial recognition facial thermographs to recognize emotion such as fear or stress in persons of interest, bank machines, paper records leaving paper trails, assembling information about an individual or a group, monitoring personal information on credit cards and your bank accounts, and IP addresses stored in databases, these above mentioned things maybe without the person of interest even knowing it. Tracking content and keystrokes. Are you being monitored because of your alliances?

The best way not to get caught up in surveillance nets is not to do what is considered by society to be aberrant. Oh you can still do it, face-to-face, and in the privacy of snail mail, but put it in writing on the Internet, or talk about it on your telephone, and you're asking for the net (big brother) to pick you up like Google and have a search warrant leveled on your house, and especially on your computer hard drives and backups. Like marijuana busts with big punishment for using, if you engage in societally unfavorable shit on the Internet, you will be caught.
You won't find a nude picture of me on any computer file anywhere. But then, who would want to look at me in the nude, anyway? You will find a lot of subversive stuff that I've written in jest. I sure hope the censors can tell the difference.
