Picking up on my practice of using affirmations to reprogram my thinking, discussed in the article “Affirmations Are Good, But…” I looked at numerous beliefs I had bought into with special attention to those I seemed to be holding close. In this article I talk about my experiences in revising beliefs.

In a recent blog, Lipton said, “The movement of awakening consciousness involves a revision of the belief of being a biological victim of biology of life” and referenced the scientific standing on biological programming and genetics.

Immediately, my attention went to the idea of personal responsibility each individual has to revise the belief of being a biological victim. Science, the healthcare profession and various institutions including family, religion, government, schools and the business community feed into the belief that we are victims of disease, circumstances and other things. Hardly an hour goes by on network and cable television before we are reminded of this victimhood. No matter how much victim programming is thrown at you, it is your personal responsibility to dismiss the beliefs that maintain it.

Every day I work, dealing with beliefs that program health issues. At first I asked to see the programming in place to create and support conditions I saw. As I came face-to-face with a program and its supporting beliefs I very clearly “told” them, “I no longer buy into your capacity to influence my thinking”. I already saw the relationship between my thinking, the feelings I generated and the impact of those feelings on my health and wellbeing. It was clear – thinking situations through limitation or fear perspectives generated a sense of helplessness and released stress-laden chemicals into my brain and body. Conversely, I realized any limitation I came upon cued me to the need to think that situation from higher concepts and generate elevated emotions. Affirmations are higher concepts. Working with teachings from Neville I found I could start with the elevated emotions, viewing circumstances through the lens of elevated emotions such as joy and serenity or love and appreciation.

Feeling pain in a body part, aware it came from a belief in some sort of limitation, I spoke to the pain directly, saying, “I no longer buy into your capacity to draw me into your influence” and then asked, “In the atmosphere of serenity and joy, what is this body part like?” Just speaking the concept “atmosphere of serenity and joy” I released the energy and light of serenity and joy into the atmosphere and created a new lens through which to view my world, including the body part. In my mind's eye I saw the body part vibrant and healthy. I looked closer and saw the cells of that body part dancing and singing and embracing one another.

Biological programming had already set the theme of pain. So while I felt comfort and agility, the old condition came up again and again. Programming that supported the old condition was still in place and vied to maintain its place. I knew this so I reprogrammed my thinking to the energy and light of serenity and joy, maintaining this focus until my dominant feeling was joy and serenity. The thought of the body part generated feelings of serenity and joy.
