All the food is converted into sugar necessary for cells as fuel. If we overeat any kind of food, even useful, then we gain weight as we get more energy than it can burn, and deposited it in the form of fat.

Q: I know I need to count calories and to make sure that salt intake should not exceed 1,200 milligrams a day, but need to be considered further and the amount eaten per day of sugar? After all, he lies in a huge variety of products! And I recently read that in calories, you can not follow at all, if you keep under control the consumption of sugar. So what is more important, sugar or calories?

Calories and Sugar

Expert: personal trainer Jillian Michaels

Answer: There can be no two opinions. Weight gain is dependent only on the calories - no sugar. Athletes consume sugar (think about sports drinks!), but they don't not suffer of obese.

Sugar is bad for the body when consumed in large quantities by people leading a sedentary lifestyle. With moderate use of the sugar - normal component of a healthy lifestyle, if you regularly do fitness and have a balanced diet with plenty of vegetables, whole grains and low-fat protein.

Speaking frankly, there have been many studies showing that people who receive 1200 calories per day of vegetables and protein and 1200 calories of sugar products abound, the identical amount of weight lost. But even though it confirms once again that the whole thing in calories, unhealthy diet is still bad for your health, even if you lose weight.

When it comes to losing weight, counting calories - the main condition. Calories are a member of the amount of energy and fat - just a lazy reserve energy. When you get more calories than you can burn, they accumulate in the body as fat tissue. And this is the whole idea of losing weight. I met a lot of healthy and slim people, which included the sugar in your diet. My weight perfectly fits my growth. My cholesterol is perfect. Pressure normally is beyond praise. Blood sugar level is ideal. And every second person I supervise on the way to a healthy lifestyle, lives on the same principle - attention to calories, the rejection of chemicals and pseudo-foods, including sugar in the diet up to a third of all received calories.

Conversely, I have never met anyone who had consumed more food (ie energy) and not gaining weight, regardless of the type derived calories, whether from protein, carbohydrates or fats.

Another fun part of the question is that, while pure sugar can turn biochemical norm upside down when used in large quantities, many people do not eat it in its pure form. Sugars in our diet is usually hidden in other foods including fats and proteins (perfect example: ice cream,so have sugar free snack ), which significantly changes the glycemic "load" of the product. That is to say, sugar, mixed with fats, fiber and protein, getting into the stomach, enters the bloodstream more slowly, which inhibits the production of insulin.

The conclusion is always the same: all the food is converted into sugar necessary for cells as fuel. If we overeat any kind of food, even useful, then we gain weight as we get more energy than it can burn, and deposited it in the form of fat.

Short remark about salt. It retains moisture in the body, but has no body fat ratio. There have been several studies indicating that the salt can contribute to the development of cortisone (the hormone responsible for fat in the abdominal area), but only at very high consumption. If you do not suffer from high blood pressure, consult your doctor whether you can set the allowable ceiling of salt in the daily dose of 2000 mg. If high blood pressure is on the list of your health problems, your doctor will indicate how much salt is too much for you.
