About the unproduced Davy Crocket sequel, Fess 

In 1980, Fess Parker, who played Davy Crockett in the Disney TV series, wrote a screenplay that was a sequel to Davy at Alamo. It was based on the De la Pena diary that said Davy Crockett had survived the final attack and was executed afterwards. Parker’s idea was that General Santa Ana thought there might be value in hostages, so he kept Crockett and Georgie alive, and put them in a prison in Mexico City.

Fess Parker said: "I wrote this story about Crockett and Georgie escaping prison 25 years later and boarding a ship going to New Orleans.

"They go back to the Alamo just as the citizens are celebrating. Someone reads off the list of defenders, so Georgie looks at Davy and says, 'I know what you’re thinking. We're heroes and we should get out of here.' So they ride off over the hills. It was an intriguing story, but the Disney Studios didn't want to do it.

"Then Disney decided to do some more Davy Crockett films, so they cast a young Davy and wanted me to play some character in it. But it was too modern. It wasn't right. Even the language wasn't correct. It was like a romance novel they just put Crockett into, so I said, 'No I don't want to do this.' They produced it, and as I predicted, nobody paid any attention to it.”

The Disney produced TV movie was called, Davy Crockett: Rainbow in the Thunder (1988). Johnny Cash played the Elder Davy Crockett. Tim Dunigan played the young Davy.
