Exfoliating your skin properly isn’t a process as simple as applying a product and washing it off. Different parts of our body require different methods of exfoliation. Our face, one of the most delicate and temperamental parts of bodies, require considerate care. You need a good quality exfoliating facial scrub that will provide a deep cleanse and enhance the blood flow to the face. Avoid any scrubs that contain alcohol or are too abrasive. Focus the application of your exfoliating scrub onto any dry or dull patches on your face. With the pads of your fingers, work the product into your skin with gentle upward circles. Your scrub should glide across your skin and spread easily. When you’ve finished spreading the exfoliating product and have thoroughly massaged it into your skin, gently wash your face with warm water. Avoid scrubbing off the product and instead gently dip your face into the water and gently wipe away the facial scrub. Finally, pat your face down with a towel and apply a hydrating moisturiser. If you manage to keep this up on a daily basis you should see your skin become a lot softer, a lot more clear and look a lot brighter than it used to.

When it comes to exfoliating your body the process is a bit longer and requires more equipment. Before you take a shower use a loofah, a soft brush, or an exfoliating glove to brush your dry skin and remove any dead or loose skin cells that may be lingering on your skin. Start from the bottom of your feet and work your way up, keeping your brushing motions gentle. If it hurts at all or your skin starts turning red then you are using the tool too hard. If your feet have particularly hard callouses or a lot of peeling skin you can soak them in warm water and milk and use a pumice stone to soften any rough patches.

After you’ve gently brushed your skin, enter the shower and apply some gentle exfoliating cleanser. With a brush or loofah, work the exfoliator into your skin with gentle circles and rinse with warm water. If you’ve had any recent surgery or liposuction then you should avoid exfoliating any scar tissue while it’s still healing. Your scar will likely be quite weak and delicate during the healing process and for some time after. If you’re concerned about the appearance or texture of your scars then you should regularly moisturise and massage it gently to ensure that it doesn’t heal too tightly and wrinkles. If you plan to undergo liposuction in the future and are concerned about scarring then you might want to consider a Vaser liposuction procedure as an alternative to traditional liposuction. The recovery time is a lot shorter and there is far less scarring and no bruising at all.

After you’ve exfoliated and before you step out of the shower, give your body a blast of cold water to shrink your now dirt free pores and reduce the chance of trapping more dirt in them. Finally, pat most of the water off of your body and apply a hydrating moisturiser. Although you don’t have to uphold this routine every day, performing it a few times a week will greatly improve the condition of your skin.
