I was in Memphis for a couple of concerts when I got a call in my hotel room. I heard a deep voice say, “This is Elvis Aaron Presley. I just want to tell you that You Make Me Feel Like Dancing is a great song.”

Well, my friend Terry has once fooled me with a phone call pretending to be Bob Dylan, so I said, “Oh, come on, Terry. I know it’s you.”

The voice said, “No, sir. I swear to you, I am he. And I do love You Make Me Feel Like Dancing. I want you to come over to the house tomorrow. I know you have a few days off after your concert, so come over and hang out with me. Well do some music and have some fun.”

So, I went to bed feeling like a million dollars. My God, who gets to meet Elvis?

The next morning, I was listening to the radio and the news came on that Elvis had been taken to Memphis Baptist Hospital and was dead on arrival, so our meeting never happened.

Years later, I met Elvis’ last girlfriend, Ginger Alden. She told me, “Elvis came to bed that night excitedly repeating, ‘I’m going to see Leo tomorrow. I’m going to see Leo tomorrow.'

So, I just wanted to tell you, Leo, how much that meant to him."
