Today at 91, Kathleen Hughs still speaks at revivals of her cult movie It Came from Outer Space.  

Kathleen said, “The studio asked me to do 3D test shots for the movie because, at that time, my body was very 3D. They had me walk back and forth on a ramp as they tested the camera.

“Then I asked them to read a script of the movie and they said, ‘It’s already been cast, so there’s nothing for you’. I read the script and found a one-scene part, that of a lady reporting to the police that her husband is missing. So, I asked for that part. They said, ‘Oh, you’ve had bigger parts. Why do you want to do this small part?’ I said, ‘Because it’s in 3D’. I finally wore them down and they gave me that part.

“When I finished filming the scene, I went to the still gallery and as I walked in, the cameraman said to me, ‘Put your hands up in the air and scream, ‘ and I did. It was an instant success. They loved it and the film just lives forever with that photo.”

Kathleen went on to appear in 65 movies and TV shows. The photo appeared on other posters and many products.

However, Kathleen’s producer husband called his agent and said, “I don’t mind the other products, but tell that condom company to stop using my wife’s photo.”
