What make him angry?
First-time actor Neil Diamond was filming ‘The Jazz Singer’ being directed by Richard Fleischer (20,000 Leagues, Soylent Green). A scene required Diamond to storm angrily into a music studio and yell dialogue. After three takes, he couldn’t get angry enough.
Fleischer said: “Suddenly, I see Neil in the soundproof band room going berserk, throwing chairs, breaking mics, trashing anything he could get his hands on. I pressed the intercom and yelled action. Neil blasted into the mixing room in a blind rage. I was afraid he’d blow his lines, but he did them perfectly. It was a dynamite performance. I asked him, ‘What happened in there to make you so angry?"
"I was feeling lousy that I couldn't give you the anger you wanted, so I had the band play something to get me angry for real."
"What was it?"
"A Barry Manilow song."

When I visit a local assisted-living center before Christmas each year I am asked to sing karaoke Christmas carols and other songs. I sound a bit like Neil Diamond and the last time I saying Sweet Caroline, they asked me for an encore.
