Martha Perez pushes the boundaries of storytelling to the limits in her eclectic, edgy ensemble. Each unique tale harbors an assortment of characters whose moral ambiguity puts them in precarious situations. There are myriad plot twists the reader is hard-pressed to see coming around the bend. Endings run the gamut from spiritual dysfunction, sweet vengeance, heartwarming, up-in-the-air, or fairy tale happily-ever-afters.

While difficult to choose a favorite short in this edgy collection, here goes:

“Greed” for its domino effect of bloody murder.
“Our Neighbors,” a puzzling who-killed-whom.
“The Old Microwave,” where a sales transaction brings out the truth.
“Girls’ Night,” a tale of survival.

I highly recommend this no-holds-barred, boundary-pushing story collection unified by edginess.
