Monica Michelle was born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA., and the eldest of 2 children.  She has been writing poetry and music lyrics since she was 10. Poetry has continued to be her therapy. After graduating from Glen Oaks Highschool in 1997, she attended Southern University A&M College. After only 2 semesters, she moved to California and that became the start of "My Life Is Poetry: Vol 1. After California, there was a brief stay in Las Vegas, NV.  She later attended Flight Attendant School in Northern Kentucky. She always attended some college classes in between her travels and kept writing. In 2000 she had her first live performance at a Valentines Day Ball, given by Comedian "Big Sexy".  In 2001 she began hosting "LoveJones" poetry night at Upscale nightclub.      In 2002 she decided to join the United States Navy as a Master-at-Arms (Police Officer). Her duty stations  included  Illinois, Virginia, Hawaii and New Orleans, LA. During her time in the military she performed at venues and open mic events. In 2006 she won 3rd place in the Military Idol contest.  She even explored some modeling in Hawaii.  She says, "poetry is sometimes the only way I can  communicate my deep feelings.  I'm still growing as a person and poet. I have many poems and stories to tell. I want to inspire and help. My life could have taken so many different roads but I'm here in this place and at this time for a reason. God knows why and I'm praying for continuous  guidance."  After serving her country, she decided to become a Nurse and graduated  in 2010.  In 2011 she started a small publishing company, By-You-Published Company, LLC., and Is the featured artist  and CEO. In 2012 she became a new mother to a baby boy.      "My Life Is Poetry:Vol 1,"can be purchased on Amazon or by contacting the author by email, facebook, instgram or twitter.
