I'm a mother of three, wife, teacher of English and Computer Studies, author and former archaeologist. I majored in Cultural Anthropology and minored in English at university. The best course I took at university was a science fiction English course in which the professor allowed us to pen a creative piece instead of an essay. I wrote a twenty page short story about archaeologists that I would later incorporate into Phase Shift, The Mummy Wore Combat Boots and Throwaway Child. After graduation, I spent around ten years digging on archaeological sites in Ontario, Canada. There's something special about scraping away the soil to find an artifact and knowing you're the first person to hold it in a hundred, even five hundred years. When I graduated from teacher's college I taught at The Royal Ontario Museum for two years until I was hired to teach Secondary School. I've taught a lot of courses since then, but my favourites were the Archaeology course I designed for my Master of Education Research Paper, and Writer's Craft.   I've written fiction for as long as I can remember. I won an award for my version of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" in grade two. After that I remember reading a chapter book that involved a brother and a sister and a treehouse and a treasure (not The Magic Treehouse). I was so impressed by it I began to write my own adventure modeled after it. In high school I wrote fan fiction, mostly "Charlie's Angels" and "Star Trek". I entered an emo-phase in university and wrote strictly poetry in lieu of a journal. Some of that stuff is so raw, it's still painful for me to read even today.  I stopped writing after university, mostly because I didn't like the way the end product sounded. It wasn't until I was asked to teach Writer's Craft in 2000 that I began writing again. As I did research to help teach my students how to write, I taught myself. I don't think I'd be as far along in my writing career--three self-published novels and one traditionally published novel--without the Internet, which is indispensible for research and facilitating communication with agents, publishers, and other authors.
