Apprenticed at 17 with Boston's Stone Soup Poetry. Led University of Oregon's Poet in Residence John Haislip's graduate poetry workshop two years later as a freshman. Major influences include Lew Welch & Gary Snyder, Tom Robbins, Philip Roth, Edward Gorey, Alfred Hitchcock.

Was among three local poets chosen out of three thousand to kick off Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival in 1979. Prior to this, it was the policy to only hire internationally renowned poets.
