I was born in Cyprus, a country which fought for centuries to secure liberty, democracy and justice. My country is a key for my motivation. Maybe this was the reason I started writing poems since I 15. In the period 1965-67 my poems were broadcast, “on the air”, by the CBC (Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation) and soon after were included in the “Anthology of Young Poets of Cyprus”. Maybe this is the motivation that I want to promote my poetry all over the world (let the people judge how worthy they are). Studying hard for my academic qualifications (B.Sc. in Mathematics, B.A. in Economics, Ph.D. in Statistics-Economics) and then serving as Bank Manager for 23 years, I was writing but not publishing for many-many years. Still I published poems in Anthologies & literature magazines, to keep my poet-self survived. I admit that as a Bank Manager I took advantage of my post and I established the first Bank Cultural Centre in Cyprus. Also I promoted poetry acting as a Member of the Board of “The Union of Cyprus Writers”. The year when I left the Bank (2001) - to become MBA Professor, Researcher and Consultant of the Cyprus Government - I published my first collection of Poems (“Running Through A”, ΔΙΑΔΡΟΜΗ A’, Athens). Two years later I published my second one (“Running Through Β”, Athens) and in 2006 my third one (“Running Through Γ”, Athens). Not being a banker since 2001 it was a motivation for me to feel free and proceed with my collections of poems and their promotion. One other motivation was that some translators liked my poems a lot and they asked my to translate them (in many languages). Now I am proud to see my poems in so many languages, found, highly rated, in Websites of various countries, some of them composed and performed by choirs and the Opera of Cyprus, of which he is the base-soloist. As a poet I represented Cyprus poetry in 2 european congresses: in November 2003 at Cognac (France) and in May 2006 at Munich (Germany). I think this is a superior motivation for me. I am mot alone. I have my nobelist friends who encourage me to translate them (in greek from english or vice versa ) poems. Those close friends are: Neruda, Cavafis, Elliot, Montale, Szymborska, Heany. I respect them so much that I feel a heavy responsibility when I translate them. It’ s a motivation with a heavy responsibility. It’s poetry.

Joseph S. Josephides has published in Athens three Collections of Poems (2001, 2003 and 2006). He is a Member of the Board of the “Union of Cyprus Poets”, the PEN-Cyprus and the National Society of Greek Cypriot Writers. He represented the Cyprus Poetry in european Conferences (Cognac France, Nov.2003 and Munich, Germany May 2006). Some of his poems are translated in many languages, few of them composed by well-known composers. Many poems can be found in international Websites, specially designed for Poetry, Literature and are already highly rated. He is a nominee for many awards (IA- France, Int. Society Of Poets in Washington D.C., Festival of Thessaloniki, American Biographical Institute etc).Many of his poems are published in Cyprus, Greek, German, French and International Anthologies.
