Jared Smith is the author of thirteen volumes of poetry, including SHADOWS WITHIN THE ROARING FORK; THIS TOWN,co-authored with Kyle Laws; TO THE DARK ANGELS; THE COLLECTED POEMS: 1971-2011; GRASSROOTS; LOOKING INTO THE MACHINERY: THE SELECTED LONGER POEMS OF JARED SMITH; THE GRAVES GROW BIGGER BETWEEN GENERATIONS; WHERE IMAGES BECOME IMBUED WITH TIME; LAKE MICHIGAN AND OTHER POEMS; WALKING THE PERIMETERS OF THE PLATE GLASS WINDOW FACTORY;KEEPING THE OUTLAW ALIVE; DARK WING; and SONG OF THE BLOOD: AN EPIC. Jared's work has appeared in hundreds of publications in the U.S. and overseas. He has served on the editorial boards of The New York Quarterly, Home Planet News, The Pedestal Magazine, Trail & Timberline, and Turtle Island Quarterly, as well as on the boards of literary and arts non-profits in New York, Illinois, and Colorado. An educator and research executive, he has taught and worked at NYU, CCNY, IIT, Institute of Gas Technology, and Argonne National Lab, as well as being an advisor to several White House Commissions under President Bill Clinton. 

Jared Smith is listed in Marquis' Who's Who in America and other major reference works. Four Pushcart nominations. Critics and poets who have praised his work in writing include: Ted Kooser, Harry Smith, Hugh Fox, Walter James Miller, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, William Packard, Andrew Glaze, and others. This is an unusual combination of "academic" and "non-academic" writers--but he does not seem to belong to any one stylistic school.
