Blanche F. Lord has lived many different lives. A native of Philadelphia, most of her adult life was spent in Westchester County, New York, where she was known as Blanche Feldstein. At twenty, she married a medical student who, after years of study, became a psychoanalyst. Early in their marriage, they lived in Paris, France for two years, where he was a Fulbright Fellow and she studied voice. At forty, her marriage broke up, leaving her to bring up two children as a single mother. Before the breakup, she had entered Sarah Lawrence College as a returning adult majoring in drama and literature. Studying part time while managing a household and bringing up two young children, she took her six years before she earned her bachelor’s degree. She was on her own with her ten year old daughter and six year old son when she pursued a master’s degree in teaching English from Columbia University Teachers College. Fortunately, at that time, her ex-husband provided enough money for her to attend Columbia full time. After graduating, she needed to work and began her career as a newspaper reporter for a local daily newspaper in Tarrytown, New York. Finding that the pay was insufficient for her to support her two children, reluctantly, she left the newspaper. She held a number of positions in a number of corporations where she worked as a public relations writer and communicator. After she retired from her position as regional director of community relations for a large financial institution, she continued working part-time for several not for profit organizations. In order to be closer to her married daughter and two granddaughters, Mrs. Lord moved to Connecticut in 1993. In 1997, she met and married her husband, Edward. In their home in Farmington, with her husband’s encouragement, she began a new career as an author of fiction.
