Derrick, recieved his Bachelors degree from Eastern Michigan University in Broadcast Communications. He later earned a Masters in Theological Studies from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL. There, he studied under Dr. David Daniels Professor of Church History. Derrick gives Dr. Daniels, his pastor Rev. LeRoy Burden, and the school of hardknocks credit for his spiritual growth and maturity.

The greatest achievement that I've ever accomplished is getting to the physical location where God wanted me to be and he orchestrated my life events so that the goal was met. I got to Texas, "And the word of the Lord came to me."
