Information
Coming from the Caribbean where literary standards (and literary snobbery) is high, I wanted to write a popular style novel which honored the intelligence of the reader and which had depth and complexity but did not intrude on the enjoyment of the fun reader who read for escape.
I was inspired by Georgette Heyer’s spunky Regency heroines and by MM Kaye’s grand historical epics, but more importantly by the desire to create a traditional romance novel that didn’t force me to conspire against myself as a progressive person, or as a black person, in order to enjoy it.
