I grew up along the US-Mexican border in Texas and Southern California. We moved frequently due to my father's job with the US Customs & Immigration Service. My sisters and I had a strict Christian upbringing thanks to my mother's unswerving faith. We saw harsh scenes of poverty and misery in every new place we went. I wondered why there was such disparity between different groups of people and such a cold lack of general concern for the welfare of all involved. Writing was always something I wanted to do. I read a lot of biographies and memoirs of other writers as a boy. Constantly being the new kid led to a close affinity for books of all kinds. I played baseball and football when we moved to places that had teams I was eligible to play for. Living in rough places - as border towns all tend to be - led to being in more fights than I wanted and a consequent interest in boxing. My fascination with literature led to involvement with theatre and a dramatic scholarship to the University of Houston. I was interested in all types of writing as well as acting and studied play-writing, poetry, literature and journalism before leaving school. My curiosity was also stirred by the writings of philosophers leading to courses in thinking and logic. The same fascination happened with psychology and its many disciplines. My career choices seemed very unclear when the need to make a living arrived. I worked as a salesman, longshoreman, driver, newspaperman, ad writer and laborer before trying professional acting. Job uncertainty in acting and freelance writing led to accepting multiple international assignments in public relations. I was sent to thirty seven different countries to make business contacts for American companies before I stopped traveling to stay close to my wife and children. I returned to acting and screenwriting full time. I made a living doing a broad range of roles for TV, movies and theatre. I also sold a couple of screenplays that did not make it to film. In addition, I wrote educational videos and presentations just to make ends meet. Then in the mid-nineties I moved my family from Austin, Texas to Santa Monica, California. There were no pots of gold waiting although I finally got to write what I had wanted to write all along, a novel. It's called, "Road To Angel City", and it's in the process of being published now. The book describes the experiences of a character across a 40 plus year span beginning in 1962. He sets out to solve some of the riddles of life and with great difficulty succeeds. I hope the work leads to a wider understanding of the complex forces that contributed to much of the war and suffering in the twentieth century and inspires new hope for a better world.
