“Who started this writing thing?” I asked Todd. “I dunno,” he replied. “Well, I mean, did you email me a poem first, or did I?” “Have no idea,” he continued. Some help…I jot a few more words. He looks over my shoulder. “Well,” he says, “you could say that this is a collection of poems that were written in a ‘he said, she said’ format.” We found each other in an online dating site and after a brief introductory email asking, “When are we going to meet and have coffee?” we met. It was September 7, 2001. Soon, we discovered that we were writing poems spontaneously about many of the same events in (what we thought) was a very bright, refreshing style. We were having such a great time writing that they just kept on appearing. This first book has been a pleasure to compile. Chronicling our first year—from meeting in a well-known coffeehouse chain to our simple wedding held in Todd’s art studio, it is a fresh, crisp look at love poems. Our friends and family encouraged us to publish this special collection and here it is. Besides, I just love happy endings. Todd grins and says, “Of course you do.”
