As a senior in high school a friend of mine gave me a copy of The Hobbit and insisted I give it a try. I was instantly hooked and became a voracious reader. My favorite author is Dean Koontz, but I try to read many different authors. I also love the fantasy genre. Some of my favorites are Robert Jordan, George R.R. Martin, Terry Goodkind, Raymond Feist, Margarite Weis and Tracy Hickman. From time to time I will read something history related, such as a biography about Abraham Lincoln, my favorite president. I first attempted to write my novel, The Dream, as an amateur with no training. Even though it was a great accomplishment to finish it, I knew it wasn't professional quality. I also wrote several film scripts, and even though I was optioned twice, a professional writer was brought in for the rewrite on one of them. I realized, if I were ever going to be a professional writer and/or author, I needed professional training. That's exactly what I did. After two-and-a-half years of professional, online courses, I felt ready. My first endeavor was a rewrite of a small-budget film I wrote as an amateur. My newly acquired skills transformed my writing. It was exilherating to read the difference. I entered the script into a big writing contest and finished as a finalist. With my confidence high, I then embarked on the monumental task of rewriting my novel, The Dream. It went very well.
