The major influences on my writing are spiritual and motivational books and articles.  I enjoy the Romantic poets, the playwrights Inge, Ibsen, Tennessee Williams, Chekhov, and especially Eugene O'Neil.  I have a conversational tone as I am primarily a playwright, though I have had a few poems published, I have an article on costuming on the website "Dramatix" and a skit on the Christian site "Sunday School Teachers' Network".  I do not promote any one religion and I am not preachy.  I have recovered from personal problems through spirituality and self-help. In college, I would have to say that my favorites are Shakespeare, the Romantic poets and T.S. Eliot.  I had a minor in philosophy, and my plays contain themes that connect the scenes together.  Most of my themes are about personal growth, from boredom, from addiction, or from tragedy.  I will be publishing a book of my plays soon.  Several are based on Old Testament stories.  I am also an actress so my plays involve characterization.  I enjoy writing plays for general audiences and my plays often include children in them.  I have performed puppet shows and childrens' skits.  I teach sewing and costuming to some very gifted children who, I hope, will also perform in my plays. For playwrights, I also admire , Lillian Hellman, Anton Chekhov, Arthur Miller, Will Duran, and many other greats.  I also enjoy reading good childrens' plays where everything ties together.  I also read books about acting such as Larry Moss' "The  Intent to Act", Stella Adler, and Uta Hagen, "Respect for Acting".  I consider my plays to be instructional though they do not teach.  I use a unifying theme and connect everything to it. Characters are consistent throughout, and actors may be any age.  My friend, a poet, is included in most of my plays as she writes songs and poems that are spiritual. I am planning a novel which is my life story, but also includes dream interpretations using psychology and the Bible. The novel is available now on Kindle and it's called "Only in My Dreams".

I was awarded the Anne Sampson Competitive Scholarship for my senior year at Berkeley. I am a Phi Beta Kappa, I have a secondary teaching credential and a certificate in dressmaking. I have been a costume designer at a dance studio. I am the recent winner of a local playwrighting contest at Point Loma Actors' Theater (with two other writers).
