Serena Toxicat is a San Francisco-born feline-alien hybrid of the Aquarian persuasion whose occupations include the performing arts, NLP life coaching and exotic-feline enrichment.
Much of her volunteering has centered on rescue-cat socialization and working with domestic violence survivors. Her hobbies include painting, goth clubbing, open mics, collecting tattoos, LGBTQ activism, teaching herself last-leg languages and pirouetting with loons. She was ordained a priestess in the Fellowship of Isis, maintains a cat goddess temple in Oakland, and practices intuitive reading and healing.
Serena founded a self-described Black Catwave band called Protea, and her parallel recording projects include Starchasm. She lived almost eight years in Paris, worked as a model, actor, and English teacher, studied at La Sorbonne, and went on to attend Le Cours Florent, where she won awards for theater and playwriting. Toxicat traveled to Egypt and recorded vocals in the King's Chamber of Khufu. She has sung in sacred spaces throughout the US and Europe.
The odd cat scratches out dark fiction, lyrics, plays and poetry in English and in French. Her book, 'Evangeline and the Drama Wheel,' self-published as a novella on Lulu, will soon be available as a full-length novel through Isis House Publishing. Serena’s writing and translation work have appeared in numerous anthologies and have been published by Greenery, Feral House, Les Editions du Rocher, Manic D Press and other fine houses.
'Ghosts in Bones' is her latest novel, which addresses anorexia nervosa in a middle-aged, uninsured woman.
Serena lives under the reign of her two cats, Isis (now in spirit) and Selket. Fighting eating disorders is her ongoing passion.
