Children's imaginations and thirst for knowledge have inspired me. The books I have read to them have left indelible memories of how great stories can turn children into avid readers eager to explore new worlds.
While writing, my aim is to give children a feel-good factor and leave them wanting to read more. I also aspire to make my books interesting for parents and grandparents who read to children.
The children's authors who have influenced me most are Roald Dahl and Dr Seuss. Dahl for his gross characters and for how youngsters confronted by difficulties overcame them. Dr Seuss for amusing rhymes and zany creatures.
During my teaching years I noted that young children often picked a mix of both factual as well as story books when given a choice. I decided to mix both fact and fantasy into THE GREAT WIZARD WARS. I hope this appeals to young readers.
My adult reading was influenced by G B Shaw and John Steinbeck. Brilliant minds.
Many of my favorite quotes are Shaw's:
"Make it a rule never to give a child a book you would not read yourself" George Bernard Shaw
