Unofficial Bio Davis, who turns 72, has been writing all his life, and believes that a writer’s life, while imbedded in the mainstream of ordinary existence, sustained by the events he engages and by the people he is fortunate to love, is really best accessed through “the work.” What, he wonders, would you really know about him from a resume-like account. Nevertheless ... A professional actor at age 12, debuting at the Charles St. Playhouse in Boston, Davis pursued a degree in English at the University of New Hampshire, where he came under the spell of notable teacher / writers Thomas Williams and John Yount, John Irving's mentor. His earliest influences were Hemingway and Jack London. Later, Henry Miller and Balzac. After an MA in creative writing at SDSU, where he became friends with another teacher/writer, Professor Emeritus Donald Shojai. Davis' master's thesis, a "novel" called "Fire in the Sky" (aka "On the Road to Chapala") was picked up by a Hollywood agent, drawing Davis to LA where he spent the next fifteen years speculating in the LA movie business, writing treatments and scripts, and raising a family. A chance opportunity to write for German TV brought him to Munich, Germany, his wife's family's home town. An uncredited TV movie followed, along with numerous scripts under contract, some of which are still "in development" and have been given new legs because of the interest attracted by his new novel. Since returning to the USA in 2008 after 7 years in Munich, Davis devoted himself to writing short stories, poetry, and his novel, while teaching full time at a local college prep high school. Many of his short stories have appeared online and in print. Notably, in The Pacific Review (“Streetmaster”; 1987), Mystery Weekly (“Otherwise Known As”; August 2017), The Otherwise Engaged Literature and Arts Journal (“Bear”; Amazon, 2018), New Pop Lit (“Raga Punk Rock”; March 22, 2019), and Literary Heist (“Two-Face”; December 21, 2019). His auto-bio-fiction series about life in NYC in the heyday of Punk Rock will be published in 2020 on Vinylwriters.com, starting with “Baked Ziti”, about his run in with Debra Harry. His film reviews have appeared in Magill's Cinema Annual.
