When she was a youngster, Nancy spent many hours exploring the woods and creek next to her home in suburban Delaware. Returning home, she would empty her pockets of chunks of rose quartz, bird feathers, or a preying mantis cocoon. A neighborhood artist and hermit inspired Nancy’s love of nature by giving her books such as Walden, by Henry David Thoreau, and Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Nancy’s first art teacher took her sketching on location when she was 10 years old, further honing her observation skills and love of nature.
