Yvette, 36, wife and mother began writing poetry at eight years of age. She was inspired as an outlet of a tumultuous home life. In the beginning her greatest incouragement came from her third grade teacher, Mr. Green. Her first short story, 'A Bowl of Fruit' was published in the Madison Elementary school newspaper. Yvette went on to edit her high school yearbook, in which she was voted most creative. College is where Yvette began to flourish as a poet and spokenword artist.
