Yvette, 36, wife and mother began writing poetry at eight years of age. She was inspired as an outlet of a tumultuous home life. In the beginning her greatest incouragement came from her third grade teacher, Mr. Green. Her first short story, 'A Bowl of Fruit' was published in the Madison Elementary school newspaper. Yvette went on to edit her high school yearbook, in which she was voted most creative. College is where Yvette began to flourish as a poet and spokenword artist. She hosted a controversial radio talk show and edited the university newspaper. While working as a journalist in Baltimore, MD, Yvette quickly became one of the top notch poets of the North Eastern region. She won several spoken word contest and made numerous featured reader appearances at cafe's and night clubs up and down the eastern coast. She performed at the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Five on the Black Hand Side night club in DC, Frankie's in NY city, the Metropole and Jazz Junkies Cafe in Baltimore, MD, MoorEpics and African House of Poetry (AHOP)in Atlanta, and the National Theatre in Ghana, as well as numerous other places. She is most inspired by the poetry of Sonia Sanchez, Ntozake Shange, and Amiri Baraka, DJ Renegade, Saul Wlliams, Jessica Care Moore and many others.

Yvette was nominee for Poet of the year by National Library of poetry in 2000 & 2003, She has been published in The Poet's Edge Magazine, Critique Magazine, Scribble Literary Journal, Crux SA/USA Poetry Anthology, and she has created & edited An Outspoken Anthology and edited The Poet comic book.
